Ron Porritt
Kalamazoo
Ron Porritt describes his work in the following statement: “My pride in Michigan is a big part of what drives my photography. I was raised in a small Michigan town where the school bell still rang in the belfry, trucks lined up at the grain mill, and the biggest event every year was the 4th of July celebration.
To me, Up North meant an old canvas tent and fishing all day. The big trip to town brought Christmas lights and scenes in store windows. I have long had a desire to capture images of the things that we love about Michigan. My vision started with our rivers, but soon broadened to encompass the much bigger picture of why we call Michigan home.
In 2004 I established my goal to produce fine art Michigan photography and started selling prints in 2006. I enjoy going to art shows to talk with the people. It is good to hear their memories when they say “I’ve been there” and feel their pride in our state.”
