Jon Holderer grew up in Freehold, New Jersey. When he was big enough to reach over the darkroom sink, his father, a photographer, taught Jon the magic of photography.
At 18, Jon moved to New York City and apprenticed world-renowned photographer Steve Steigman, famous for his Maxell ads. While there, Jon worked on some of the biggest ad campaigns of the time. At 25, Jon opened his own studio in New York City, specializing in still life and tabletop photography. He was a NYC-based photographer for over 20 years, with many clients including Kodak, Macy’s, NBC, Citibank, L. L. Bean, and Seagrams. He also shot many Broadway show posters.
Currently, Jon resides in Remsenburg, New York with is wife Wendy Wax, a children’s book author and illustrator, and his 8-year-old son Jonah, who is learning photography from his dad.

- Bay View Flats, Old Mission – I admired the way the subtle beauty of the Bay Flats contrasted with the majestic sky.
- Canoeing On Cedar River – What can be more peaceful than canoeing down the Cedar River among croaking bullfrogs, chirping birds, sunning turtles, and an occasional sandhill crane?
- Cattails On Grand Traverse Bay – I was amazed at how such fluffy shapes could grow from such narrow, cattail stalks.
- Cherry Blossoms, Bunker Hill – My timing was perfect. I arrived at the moment the cherry blossoms burst into bloom.
- Cherry Grove – A miracle of nature: Cherry trees and dandelions blossom at the same time, creating an endless forest of spring colors.
- Cherry Grove Hills – I loved the way the light bounced off the cherry trees, giving the illusion that they were covered in snow.

- Family on Tall Ship – I enjoyed sailing on Grand Traverse Bay on a Tall Ship in the late afternoon with this beautiful family.
- Fly Fishing On Boardman River – The crystal, clear water of the scenic Boardman River is the perfect place for fly fishing.
- Girl, West End Park, Grand Traverse Bay – I met this girl at West End Park's beach where the water was crystal clear.

- Heart, Sleeping Bear Dunes – At sunrise, I climbed Sleeping Bear Dunes and came across this heart that someone had created in the sand. It summed up what it felt like to be in such a magical place.
- Kayaking On Cedar River – While kayaking toward some Michigan pines, I stopped to experience a moment of tranquility. The reflection of sky in the water seemed surreal, as did the richness of color.
- Kite Flying Over Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes – This man seemed to be flying his kite from a sand bluff at the top of the world.
- Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes – Having grown up on the Atlantic Ocean, the vastness of Lake Michigan was breathtaking. I was stunned to see such Caribbean-blue water in the middle of our country.
- Leelanau Barn With Cherry Blossoms – I love the way the sunlight brought out the grain and texture of the barn's weathered wood.
- Migrant Worker Housing – This historic building was once the home to migrant workers passing through Michigan's farm country at cherry harvest time.
- Old Mission Peninsula Rowboat – This dinghy wax brought ashore by one of the larger boats to explore a private cove at Old Mission Point.
- Old Mission Point Lighthouse – The Old Mission Point Lighthouse is located on the 45th parallel, halfway between the equator and the North Pole.
- Patriotic Barn And Cherry Blossoms, Leelanau County – A classic, American barn surrounded by Cherry trees on the Leelanau Peninsula
- Pierce Stocking Overlook, Sleeping Bear Dunes – There's no better place to experience a sunset over Lake Michigan than Pierce Stocking Overlook, towering 500 feet above the water.
- Sailing, Grand Traverse Bay – Sailboat racing is a weekly tradition on Grand Traverse Bay from early spring to fall.
- Sleeping Bear Dune – I was drawn toward this sand dune with just a single set of footprints leading up to the brilliant blue sky.
- Sunrise On Grand Traverse Bay – Golden-amber paradise. What a way to start the day!
- Sunset at Old Mission Point – The beauty of light hitting the vegetation on the Old Mission Coast was exquisite.

- Trillium – I was fascinated by the delicate Trillium flower, which only blossoms one week of the year. Trilliums are ground flowers, which bloom when the earth warms up, just before the leaves on the trees block the sun from reaching them.
- Trillium Forest Leelanau – The forest floor was a carpet of Trillium. What a stunning scene!
