Photo Tip – Basic Shooting
- Always shoot at the highest quality setting your camera allows. You can easily downsize but can’t add what isn’t there.
- Learn when to take control of your camera’s flash. This is not always as cut and dry as you might think – and sometimes Auto is the best setting.
- Keep a small tripod handy. Even with larger cameras there are portable options that will support some weight.
Photo Tip – Memory Cards
- Make sure your camera is off when installing or removing a card.
- Format cards often after transferring your pictures to their permanent home on your computer or discs.
- Do not use cards in more than one camera without reformatting the card in the new camera.
- Keep a spare card or two. Accidentally deleted images can usually be recovered, provided you DON’T TAKE MORE PICTURES ON THE CARD.
Photo Tip – Camera Care
- Keep the outside of your camera as clean as possible. This is especially important for interchangeable lens SLR cameras.
- Keep your pocket point-and-shoot digital in a case. Broken LCD’s from cameras in purses and bags are our 2nd most common repair.
- Check SLR sensor for dust periodically. Some cameras have a menu option. If not, we will cover how to take a dust reference photo in a later post.
