Instructor’s Name: Chris Doyal
About the Instructor: Chris Doyal has been a commercial photographer since 1991. He was educated at Purdue University where he studied photography. After a fly fishing trip to Belize in 2000, he became a certified scuba diver. He has dove and photographed in the Great Lakes, Belize, Bonaire, Honduras, Bali, North Sulawesi, Greece, the Florida Keys, and Tobermory, Ont. He has won photo contests in the U.S. and Indonesia. His work has appeared in Asian Diver, PADI Sport Diver, and numerous other websites, magazines and newspapers.
Recently, he was asked to provide photos for a display at the Field Museum in Chicago. He is currently president of the Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve Council and sits on their board of directors. His work can be seen at www.chrisdoyal.com and www.gtbup.org.
Class Description: Are you a diver interested in capturing the images of the underwater world? Learn the necessary techniques to take underwater photos or improve your current skills. Emphasis will be on lighting, composition, camera care, and answering your many questions. Explore different camera systems and how to choose the right one to meet your expectations and price range.
Class will consist of a lecture, demonstrations, and then a local dive where you can practice your new skills. After the dive, we’ll critique the images and learn what changes need to be made to produce better results. Here’s your chance to learn from a professional underwater photographer in a relaxed setting. Information on rental gear will be provided should you require it.

Additional Information: Participants must be a certified scuba diver and provide certification card at the beginning of the class. All students should contact me prior to the class so that I can assess their skills and needs.
